Mom and I took Elaine to the pediatrician's office the other day, and as it turns out, it is *not* my imagination that she is growing like a weed. She now weighs 14 1/2 pounds (vs. 8 lbs. 9 oz. at birth) and has grown FIVE inches, making her 25 inches long. She acted like a perfect angel during the appointment, lying there stark naked and cooing on the table, peeing twice all over it, and squalling for a total of about 2.2 seconds when they gave her two shots in the leg. When Mom reported to Dr. Sexton that Elaine eats 8 oz. at a feeding, Dr. Sexton's jaw dropped. No wonder my boobs hurt!
She is heavily into staring at her toys lately. We hold these little black-and-white illustrated disks up in front of her, and she just gazes, open-mouthed. She also gives rapt attention to my hands when I sit in front of her and sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" -- it's just adorable! I wish I knew what she was thinking when she's taking in stuff like that. It is so much fun to see her awareness of everything that's going on around her sharpen. The one thing I wish for (and I know, we've been so lucky with EVERYTHING that I shouldn't wish for anything except more of the same) is that she would give us some more laughs. That one that we got on video two weeks ago was it so far. And she seems so happy and enjoys giving us those giant grins so much, it seems like laughing shouldn't be far behind. Maybe we're just not funny enough -- ?
