What a couple of weeks Elaine is having! I guess as kids get older it's probably easier to think nothing of it when they learn two or three new things in the span of a week, but we're convinced we've given birth to a Nobel Prize candidate. Alison and I, of course, have been touting Lainey's new skills to every poor sap who asks the "how's the baby?" question. We make an effort to keep our responses under half an hour, but as our goob of a President would say, "It's hard work." *Shiver*. Digressing...sorry.
One of the things that Lainey has been doing a LOT of lately is waiting for one of us to put our finger into her mouth sideways and move it up and down while she makes ridiculous noises. We went for a walk with Nana last weekend and I was wearing the Bjorn. I find it hilarious that she does this at all, so I was giggling most of the way because she was bahbahbahbahbahbahbah-ing for 40 minutes, prety much non-stop. There's nothing like watching the reactions of passers by when you are carrying on a normal conversation with another adult while a baby does this strapped to the front of you:
It's also completely random what will make little Lainey laugh. She's still not doing so with any regularity, at least not for her parents. Nana says she gets plenty of giggles, which we're not at all jealous about. Hmph. Well, today, we got some GOOD ones. For whatever reason, while she was sitting on Alison's lap and I was putting away groceries, I made some stomping gesture while saying "bizzee bizzee bizzee" and walking towards her to give her a kiss. After this got her going, we got out the camera and recorded it. Man she is too precious.
She's working pretty hard on turning over on her own, as well. She completely surprised us all by flopping over twice the night we got back from a trip to Tahoe two weekends ago. But it seems that she's forgotten how she did it, because now she'll just lay there on her tummy and grunt and get more and more frustrated - head bobbing, feet flailing furiously - until she finally just decides to suck on her own fingers instead. I can't really blame her, they're really cute little fingers.
